PSCĀ Code FAQ

What does a PSC code look like?

Four characters. Services start with a letter (for example R408 for program management support). Products start with two digits for the FSC group (for example 7030 for software).

Is the PSC lookup free?

Yes. No account is needed to search, and there is nothing to sign up for.

How do I find the PSC code on a solicitation?

Open the opportunity on SAM.gov. The PSC appears in the classification section alongside the NAICS code and the set-aside type.

Do I register PSC codes in SAM.gov?

NAICS codes are required in your SAM.gov registration. PSC codes are optional there, but knowing yours matters more for searching and filtering opportunities than for registration.

What is the difference between PSC and FSC?

FSC (Federal Supply Classification) is the product half of the PSC system: the two-digit groups that start product codes. Service codes start with a letter and are not part of FSC. People use "PSC" for the whole set.

Which PSC codes should I search opportunities with?

The two to five codes that describe what you can deliver now. Too many codes floods your feed with work you cannot perform; too few hides opportunities you could win.

What is a PSCĀ Code?

Product Service Codes describe what a federal agency is purchasing. Each is four characters. Service codes begin with a letter (R for professional and management support services, D for IT and telecommunications, J for maintenance and repair). Product codes begin with two digits, the Federal Supply Classification (FSC) group, followed by two more characters. GSA maintains the PSC Manual, published on acquisition.gov.

What is the difference between PSC and NAICS?

NAICS classifies your business. PSC classifies the purchase. A solicitation for a cybersecurity assessment might carry NAICS 541512 and PSC D310, and both matter: NAICS decides small-business size status, PSC tells you exactly what work is being bought. Use the NAICS Code Finder for the first one.

Where do PSCĀ codes show up?

On every SAM.gov contract opportunity, in award records on USAspending.gov, and in agency forecasts. Searching opportunities by the PSC codes that match your offerings is one of the fastest ways to cut a daily feed down to what you can actually deliver.

Can IĀ have more than one PSCĀ code?

Yes. Most firms map to several. Pick the codes that describe work you can perform and price today, not everything adjacent to it.

Where do I confirm my codes?

The official PSC Manual, published by GSA on acquisition.gov, is the source of record. This lookup is a keyword search over that list to save you reading the manual from the top.
